Bike the Bend Matching Grants

Indiana Michigan River Valley Trail

Have you heard about the Indiana Michigan River Valley Trail.  If not, get ready for some excitement.  When completed, we will have a 34 mile “highway” running between Michigan and Indiana and connecting us to parks, college campuses, retail businesses, restaurants and employers in Niles, MI and South Bend and Mishawaka, IN.  What makes this highway different from the ones we already have? This one is just for pedestrians and bicyclists!  Pretty great we think.  This has been in the works since 2008 and could be completed by 2019.  Read the History of the Trail.

By connecting many of the multi-use trails we already have, approximately 27 miles of the “highway” is already in use.  Another 3 ½ miles will be ready for all of us to enjoy by Fall 2015.

Making it all come together is a group of trail planners and partners. Bike the Bend is pleased to be counted as one of the partners.  We are providing matching grants for the construction of 2 segments of the IMRVT….the LaSalle Trail in Indiana and the Niles Charter Township segment in Michigan.  We need your help to maximize the impact of these grants.   More information on each of these projects and how you can help:

Why are “highways” like the IMRVT important to economic growth?
