How Did Bike the Bend Start?

The Louise Addicott and Georgina Joshi Foundation, the Addicott-Joshi family’s 501(c) (3) non-profit foundation started the Bike the Bend bicycle ride because family bike rides create great memories; memories like Louise Addicott riding with her husband, Yatish, and children, Georgina, Tenzing and Avatar Joshi.

By avoiding streets with heavy vehicle traffic, Louise was able to take her family on bike rides where they could ride side by side and talk about the neighborhoods, parks, landmarks and beauty they saw in their community. The Louise Addicott and Georgina Joshi Foundation is carrying on that tradition and encourages families and friends to create their own great memories by getting out on the streets and bike trails of South Bend, Mishawaka, and St. Joseph County, Indiana.

In addition to helping families and friends create great memories, The Louise Addicott and Georgina Joshi Foundation hopes Bike the Bend will:

Highlight the beauty of the distinctive urban neighborhoods, parks and landmarks in South Bend and Mishawaka, and St. Joseph County, Indiana

  • Encourage more bicycling opportunities and infrastructure throughout our community
  • Encourage bicycling for recreation, fitness, transportation, and a healthy lifestyle
  • Establish South Bend, Mishawaka and St. Joseph County as “Bicycle Friendly Communities”
  • Promote bicycle education and safety in our community
  • Encourage people to see the area and each other from a different perspective
  • Promote South Bend, Mishawaka and St. Joseph County to visitors to our area
